6th International CLIVAR Climate of the 20th Century Workshop

5-8 November 2013

School of Earth Sciences, University of Melbourne, Australia

Meeting Summary

The CLIVAR International Climate of the 20th Century Project uses climate models forced with observed time-varying sea surface temperatures to understand observed twentieth century climate variability, climate change and seasonal to decadal predictability. The project is jointly led by COLA and the Hadley Centre and currently brings together over 25 international modelling groups.

The 6th International Climate of the 20th Century Workshop will be hosted by the Australian Research Council's Centre of Excellence for Climate System Science (CoECSS) and will be held at the School of Earth Sciences, in the McCoy buildingcorner of Elgin and Swanston Streets, at the University of Melbourne, Australia. The University of Melbourne is located about 500m north of the Melbourne downtown area and is linked by frequent trams along Swanston Street from the city (local map). The CoECSS welcomes C20C.

The workshop will be organized around the following themes: HadISST2, Precipitation Trends, Attribution and Detection, Summer North Atlantic Oscillation, Weather Noise, and Mid-Latitude Predictability. More generally, any other aspect of climate variablility of the 20th and 21st centuries addressed using observations, global atmospheric general circulation models (AGCMs) or coupled global climate models (CGCMs) is welcome. Participants are encouraged to suggest other key focus topics for consideration before, during, or after the workshop.
