Post-Doctoral Research Scientist for NMME The Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies is seeking a self-motivated postdoctoral research scientist to join the team of scientists working on improving intraseasonal to interannual climate predictions that will be of high utility to the U.S. Navy. The incumbent will join a multi-institutional project to conduct original research to enhance the prediction of high priority data products currently in use by the Navy, including waves, winds, ceiling and visibility, precipitation, storm formation and tracks, evaporative duct heights, air temperature, freezing level, surface temperature, and ocean currents. The selected candidate will explore the potential predictability of these quantities using large data sets produced by U.S. national laboratories participating in the National Multi-Model Ensemble (NMME) project and by U.S. Navy research and operational entities. Candidates with experience in analyzing large forecast data sets or running complex computer models are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate also is expected to take a leadership role in preparation of manuscripts for publication and conference participation. For full consideration, interested and qualified applicants must apply for position number F9690z at http://jobs.gmu.edu/; complete and submit the online application; and upload a cover letter including a statement of research interests, a curriculum vita, and contact information for two professional references. In addition to the online application, materials can be e-mailed to the NMME-Navy PostDoc Search Committee (Dr. James Kinter, chairperson; ikinter@gmu.edu). For full consideration, apply by June 30, 2013. |
